When all this is over
Is this a joke, are you actually saying I should come over by Monday? Michael could not believe his ears. Yes! It’s no joke. Come over and sign the papers, Monday, 8am. The phone dropped.
Those were the words that gave Michael true hope after four years of roaming the street for a job. And then, just before Monday could come, corona virus came.
Michael needed to exercise his faith and damn the consequences. Despite the announcement for a lockdown, Monday at exactly 7am, he was right there at A&T Oil and Gas Company Ltd.
I need to see the Manager.
What for? The security officer blunted with an angry voice.
I have an appointment with him by 8 this morning.
What appointment? Are you in this country or out of this country? Why can’t you just be current where ever you are?
My friend, go back to where you are coming from! How did you even get here in the first place. Or do you want me to call for your arrest?
No sir! But please sir, can you just tell him that Michael Odewale is at the gate, I’m sure he will call to see me.
Ok, wait for me. The security officer picked his cell phone, dialed a number, and is shouting at top voice; Hello, Sergeant sir, there is a man disturbing the peace of our company this morning. It looks like he has even contacted the virus and is determined to effect everyone here, ok sir, 10 minutes! Thank you sir!
Alright Mr man, the Manager will be here in… He looked at the direction where Michael had been standing, and could only see the shadow of his back in a distance.
Nonsense! You want to see the Manager. Mtheeeeew.

Michael got home that afternoon, furious and exhausted. He has been dialing the office number that called him some seven days ago to no avail.
Could this be the end of life? This little thought saturated his heart, Oh Lord, let it be please. He could hear himself saying unconsciously.
And then, the little thought seems to be mocking him. End of life ko, end of life ni! You are here my friend, and for a long while too.
No Lord, this is bad! Just when I thought that light has come. He remembered the previous Monday after he received the call from A & T. His excitement knew no bound!
A friend has recommended him to one of the biggest company in town. He was asked to submit his CV about a month ago, which he did, and then that Monday morning, he got a call to resume work the next Monday.
What is life now? What is life!! 😭 Corona virus should just come and finish the work it has started. He grumbled.
Oh, that Monday. He was sure that was the best day of his life since the year 2020. He couldn’t blink his eyes, nor sleep that night. He kept rolling from one side of the bed to the other.
He had planned his entire year in one night.
He would start work the next Monday, buy the latest Lexus the following Monday, proposed to Sarah the other Monday, get married the next Monday. Get Sarah pregnant that same Monday, have a set of twins, a baby girl and a boy the upper Monday. Everything was planned and in order.
But now, a pandemic came and disrupt everything.
What am I going to do now? And when all this is over, what will I be doing?
Perhaps, like Michael, you had planned your year, already knew what you should be doing today the 1st of May 2020. But now, you don’t seem to know what else to do.
The year has been like a mirage.
This is a little tale to tell you to hold on still. It’s not over, not until you say so. You still have the power to make new plans, work through them and see them come through.
Never lose heart! The year still holds opportunities, that if you look a little deeper, you would see, harness and excel.
Happy New Month Family!
