Start—Gain knowledge/build influence/Make Money
Don’t—Make excuses.
I use to be that person who always love to observe and observe. I want to know the details, why and how things are done exactly! I wouldn’t say I was curious, I was just overly conscious. I would learn and learn and learn but do nothing. Then I will see people who only know a little of what I have learnt doing marvelous things. Woow.. The scales are finally off my eyes. If I see an opportunity I like, I take it! Whether or not I know heaven and earth about it. Will share details with you some other time. Now to the main gospel.
One reason many smart people never start up; they want to know everything there is to know and have everything they think they need. But, In reality, “the best way to do just that is to start up and learn on your job.” Learn on the process of your job. The richest and wisest of men do just that.
This post is to show you how to learn on your job, becoming a PRO in the process .
First, Study what has been done by others: This very simple act takes you three steps ahead of where you should have started from. like it’s popularly said, “there is hardly anything you would want to do that has not been done before.” It may not be popular, but someone somewhere has done something about it. it is your responsibility to go find out.
The time you should have spent on thinking whether or not you should do something, spend that time instead in studying what has been done already, this will not only increase your interest, but will help you see how and where you should start. So, today, if you are yet to, start a research or study on your area of interest.
GET a passion. Please note, I did not say Be passionate. One characteristic that will keep you docile without any progress is lack of enthusiasm, drive and passion. The Wisest and Richest Men are passionate about life. Many times, the reason why people don’t scale through in their businesses and life’s goal can be trace to lack of passion. Now, here is my simplified definition of passion — Knowing what you want, then ‘learning’ and ‘doing’ everything it takes to get it. Bad enough some persons still see passion as the emotional gragra… You will soon burn out.
Do you truly want (love) what you do? How passionate are you about it?
Now, there is nothing wrong in doing what you don’t like, It’s a faster way of self discovering than staying idle. Many times, that’s what help you discover what you truly want and love to do. I remember Oprah Winfrey sharing a story of how she was serving as a news reported while starting out as a media personnel. She didn’t do well on the job as her emotions got the best of her. But that helped her know what she didn’t want to do until she was transferred to a talk show, where her talent lies and she enjoyed every bit of her talk.
Study powerful men who have made tremendous impact in their time, they are men and women who are/were passionate about life. Build your passion and strive!
Believe in your course: I always say this. If you don’t believe in yourself or what you do, why should I or anyone else believe in you? Enthusiasm is contagious. There are some persons who do what they do because someone else is doing it and got recognized for it. Such poor motivation hardly takes anyone anywhere. There are some others who don’t seems to be on the right course, but are running it with such passion, faith and zeal… They succeed even on the wrong course, because they believe. Do you believe in your dreams? Are you passionate about what you do, how much faith do you possess? These are very important, if you must go far anyway. Personally, I am going farther than my wings can carry me. Perhaps, that’s why I am very concern about this.
Enough of the doubt. Believe in yourself!
Do not be afraid to make mistake. As a perfectionist who always want things done the best way, I had a big issue here. Now if you follow through this process of studying what has been done and how it was done, you have a higher chance of almost getting it right the first time. but not entirely right. You still have to learn on your job.
The fear of making mistake should not be a reason why you should not explore life. You cannot completely avoid making mistake. it is part of the process. You learn from your mistake and move on to do better. That’s what the big guys do! Make mistake, learn and do better. That’s how it works.
You learn your job by doing your job. No matter what your job is, no matter what you have read or see people do, you only learn a job by doing the job. So get to work, make mistake, restrategize and do it again.
