Exactly three years ago, we were still seriously job hurting, I and my darling sister.
We got a call for a job opening and faim! Like hunters, we were right there.
After all necessary protocol have been observed, we obviously met the requirements.
Oga started telling us life stories, very motivational stories. I was impressed. In my mind, this is a good boss to work with.
Then the big question came, and this was his exact words…
“I want to adopt one of you, who should that be?”
I and my sister looked at each other, I guess the same thing was running through our minds.
Then oga made it easier for us, “don’t worry, the two of you will get the job” But I want to help one of you, I will take you as my daughter, and your life is never going to be the same again.
“Ohh, Oga, na me na..” I signal my sister to relax, if this is real, he will adopt the two of us.
Oga sir, I will be your adopted daughter, I said with a broad smile…
Done Deal
Next move by my adopted father, “meet me up at xyz hotel tomorrow”
Me: “Yes Daddy. What are we doing there daddy?”
Adopted Daddy: “We need to make arrangement for all applicants and select the most qualified”
Okay Daddy.

Champions of the #EndSARS protest!
The next day we were right at the hotel. Daddy brought out some files and list of names…
“See your name and your sister’s name, write them on top of the list of those who will be employed”
Okay Daddy, Thank you!
Daddy sat on the bed, pulled his sleeves and said oya, come and rub my back!
Haa!
Daddy of life!! Is it like that? Like sugar daddy things…?
Daddy: Is not a big deal my dear, just rub my back and let me touch you a little..
Me still figuring out what is going on.. Haa! Mercy Mercy… Adopted daughter… Come and play your daughterly role.
Before I could recover from my thoughts, Daddy was already on me.
Hmmm.. Father Lord, like you have always done, you showed me MERCY again that day.
Yeah.. I escaped for dear life.
As I walked out of the hotel that afternoon, I brought out my pen and wrote;
Adopted daddy DISOWNED!
Mind you, the project that we were to be employed for was yet to be signed and approved by the government, and one daddy was already trying to make a mess of job seekers.
Now, why did I share this story?
After that experience, I told myself I was done with job hurting.
It was time to discover me! Align with my purpose, pick a skill and hone it.
And I did just that.
It has not been so smooth, but it has been worth every single moment.
Now here is the thing.
I got a call very recently by one of the top government official of my state..
A particular sector of the present government administration needed an expert to help manage their digital and social media presence, I was recommended.
And I had the chance and honour to negotiate my working hours.
Dear young person,
Is it really worth it? Compromising yourself for money, a job, relationship, or what have you??
Maybe it’s time to disown that DADDY and fix YOU!!!
Yesterday was the International Day of the Girl Child. And I dedicate this piece to every girl child out there.
You are much more than rubies! You are phenomena!
Let nothing deter you!!
Let your light shine, so BRIGHT!!!
