Do you know who you are? How would you describe your personality? How does the things you do help to refine you and make you a better person?
How can you blend your natural abilities with your career and life paths and become the best of you?
In today’s world, with the ever increasing distractions, understanding your personality and mastering your strength is not something you want to play with.
There are few platforms that give you an accurate check on yourself.
Let’s run a quick check on your personality – here are three powerful recommendations.
- 16personalities
I am not one who would easily want to undergo a personality check, but after going through the 16personalities, I feel this is one exercise every young person must go through.
What could be so lovely as to have an insight on your personality? To understand for real why you do the things you do according to Tim Laye. I like the simple analysis of the 16 personality and how it offers immediate, practical solutions to help you improve and explore a better life.
Be honest with your answers and it will amaze you how this mirror of 16personality reflects your true self.

- Volunteer
“Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others.” – Plato
This is one topic we don’t talk about too often. Thinking about it right now, I recommend it should be a compulsory curriculum in secondary schools.
Imagine you had the opportunity to volunteer for five different organizations in your teen years, including health sectors, education, media, politics, business, any of the creative/entertainment arms and of course, nonprofit organizations.
I bet you wouldn’t find it a hard nut to crack in terms of what course of study you would excel at in college.
Now imagine you have more opportunity to do the same in your first, second and third year of university, this time in organization related to your course of study, you certainly can’t graduate from school and be confused on what to do with your life.

Those experiences would have helped shaped your personality, giving you direction on what path to pursue.
I have studied quite a number of autobiographies, one thing is quite common, most men who have done great things for humanity, whether by invention or by service, got the greatest idea and push of their lives while serving. Jeff Bezos in one of his earliest interview mentioned how he got the idea for Amazon while working for a quantitative hedge fund.
Volunteering is serving, and service helps you understand yourself better.
Here is the good news; it is never too late to volunteer your services and time. You could be the next big story the world will tell. But more importantly, you would have understood and master some of your greatest strength and also identify your area of weakness.
As the India Nationalist Mahatma Gandhi puts it; By volunteering, “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems”
- Study your Bible
Oh you were not expecting this, but yes. There is no better way to understand the purpose and functionality of a product than to study the manufacturer’s manual.

Surely, there are other ways you can understand a particular product, one is through consistent use, another is through trials and error, or simply mimicking or copying the way others are using the same product.
The above can give you a clue on how to use a product. As a matter of fact, that is exactly what 16personalities check and volunteering does for you in finding out who you really are and what you are made to do. Very helpful clues but certainly not the real deal.
Do you know why Jesus always went to the synagogue and read scriptures? Even though He is the son of God, he still needed a perfect view of what God’s word says about Him and His mission on earth.
One time He read; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
That was a clear definition of His purpose on the earth, which undoubtedly strengthened Him.
God’s word is open to anyone whose heart is open to learning the truth. Study and meditate on God’s word. When you study your Bible and do not understand, pray for God to help you understand, and He will.
