I never really thought of being a blogger really. As at 2015, while I was about graduating from school, I didn’t even know what a blog is or what a blogger does. So, blogging was never really in the picture.
The first time I got to first know about blogging was during service year (NYSC) in 2016, but even then I only saw it as an avenue to save my write ups online. Nothing more. I created a blog for myself which lasted for only 24 hours and that was it for me.
Throw back…
In late 2015, I just graduated with a 2.1 from the university of Benin, English Language and Literature. During my stay at home, just before the call for NYSC, I met an old friend who at that time was the president of The Association of Nigeria Authors (ANA) Edo State Chapter. Osama Osama.
We had a few discuss and he told me of his vision to run a radio program conducting interviews and review sessions with Authors on their latest books.
He wanted me to be his Co-host. I was super excited because I love to do that. After working on the project for a while, we got a thirty minute slot every Saturday in one of the most popular radio station in Benin. But just when we were to commence work the next week, NYSC called! Woow.. Just like that o.. When I was already feeling myself and practicing day and night on how I will be talking on air.
At that moment, I felt NYSC should be made optional. But it was not, so I had to go and serve Nigeria in far away Katsina. Thank God I did. Smiles…
Fast forward to 2017, post NYSC. I have done briliantly while serving, had hope to get a better job in Lagos but I didn’t. So I was back in Benin with nothing to do.
I went back to Osama with hopes that we could still do something about the programme, as he did not also continued as planned. We met with the Manager of the radio station, she welcomed us but this time, she was very much interested in hosting the program herself since she was also an author and member of ANA, couple with her experience as an on air personal, she stood a chance to do better.
Like I shared in our last post of 2018, after teaching in a private school for a while, I knew I wanted to do more with myself. The blogging idea came back, but this time with a clearer perspective.
“Why can’t I host interview sessions and upload on a blog?” If I couldn’t get a platform on radio, I could create my own platform. And boom! That was it!
I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing though, but I started anyway. And everyday, the vision gets clearer and bigger.
